Piano & Music Theory Educator
Music is a science, it’s mathematical, it’s a means of connecting with others, it’s physical education, but most of all it’s an art!
Music has unlocked countless life-enriching opportunities for me in performance, studies and professional practice. I've had memorable learning experiences all over the world and have had the opportunity to work for some top notch arts organisations. I am most curious about how we use creativity in our every day practice and my recent Master of Education had a special focus on exploring this very topic!
Besides my formal music background, I love free improv and performing Fado music (Portuguese cultural songs). I am a creative contributor to Eastside Radio and a fan of the Great British Bake Off.

Piano was my first love and access point to all that music offered my life. I am passionate about fostering a love of music in each of my students and aim to work closely with each individual in attaining their unique goals.

My daughter Mia took group lessons and then private piano lessons with Sonia in New Zealand. It's Australia's gain that now she teaches in Sydney. Sonia is very experienced in teaching young kids and has a very positive and upbeat personality and she provides a nurturing environment at each class. Mia has progressed steadily and gained confidence from the encouragement from Sonia. Her teaching skills always kept Mia focused while she also enjoyed every class and developed a love for music.
